Joseph Kpemka – Frimpong-Boateng is being held legally by the OSP.

According to Joseph Kpemka, a former deputy attorney general, the former minister of environment, science, and technology’s arrest by the Office of the Special Prosecutor was legal.

He claims that Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng’s detention is consistent with the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) authority.

On June 8, Mr. Kpemka stated during an appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show that “They [OSP] have the power of arrest, the power of inquiry and prosecution, and finally the power of asset recovery, therefore what they did was not unlawful. Their mandate includes making arrests.

On Wednesday, June 7, it was revealed that Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, who also served as the Chairman of the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), had been detained by the OSP in May 2023.

According to sources, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng was eventually detained and given a GHS2 million bail. He had been invited by the OSP to provide information regarding alleged corruption and related offenses involving the disbanded IMCIM.

He argued that he had done nothing improper to merit the treatment that was being given to him.

But Prof. Frimpong-Boateng insisted that he has no qualms about being charged by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
