‘I protected a female NPP MP who spent 2years abroad solving family issues, it’s my turn and they’re all against me’ — Adwoa Safo
Absentee Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo has revealed how she was compassionate with fellow members who were in her situation while in Parliament.
The Gender Minister has come under intense criticism after vacating her posts as a legislator and a cabinet minister since the beginning of the year.
Miss Adwoa Safo, in a Facebook post today, July 18, expressed disappointment at how she has been treated unfairly by some members of her party for taking care of her sick son in abroad.
According to her, a similar case happened to a certain female NPP MP in the 7th Parliament, but in her capacity as the Deputy Majority Leader, together with the other MPs, she protected her seat without any hue-making.
“The theme for this year’s Conference, ‘Holding Together, Working Together’ resonates so much with my current circumstances and brings back memories of my time as the Deputy Majority Leader in the 7th Parliament where, as Leader of the Women’s Caucus, together with the Leadership of the Majority did our very best to protect a colleague female Member of Parliament who had to be away in London for close to two years to take care of family issues,” portion of her statement reads.
She continues “We did this on compassionate grounds because it involved Children and didn’t go round making hue and cry about her absence. This is just one example of how we protected one of our own as Leaders in Parliament.”
She made these remarks while commenting on the theme of this year’s NPP national delegate’s conference under the theme, “Holding Together, Working Together.”
