Apologize to Ghanaians and accept you’re incompetent over the cedi depreciation — Bridget Otoo to Akufo-Addo
Bridget Otoo, a female journalist with Accra-based Metro TV has slammed the NPP government for watching the local currency continue to lose value.
She believes President Akufo-Addo must apologize to Ghanaians for letting them down after boasting of having the best appointees to keep the economy buoyant.
The seasoned journalist emphasized in a social media post on Wednesday, August 31, that the president should have apologized long time ago whiles looking for the best solutions.
According to her, President Akufo-Addo then in opposition compelled the late President John Evans, Atta Mills, to apologize to Ghanaians for the depreciation of the cedis even at the time the cedi per dollar was Ghc2.
“I saw a comment that said to speak on the dollar since it had dropped to 9.95 cedis, I remembered what Nana Addo said when a dollar was equal to 2 cedis. Prez. Akufo-Addo asked then President Mills and Mahama’s administration to APOLOGIZE to Ghanaians,” she stated.
She continued that “fast forward to 31/08/2022, the dollar is 9.98 to cedis, it’s only fair that the president ‘apologizes’ to Ghanaians and also admits his Vice Bawumia whom he hailed as the cedi messiah is incompetent in the management of the cedi.”
The local currency has significantly depreciated, now sold at GHS10 per dollar, causing huge uncertainty for local businesses.
The issue has also had an impact on the inflation rate, which has now historically risen above 31%, resulting in a high standard of living and price increases for general goods and services.
According to Bloomberg’s rankings of highly indebted countries, Ghana is the world’s second most indebted country, trailing only El Salvador.
