I made the recording to safeguard the interests of my group, Bugri Naabu.

In order to safeguard the interests of his party, Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), explained that he had taped a conversation with a few senior police officers about a plot to have the current Inspector-General of Police (IGP) removed.
In his testimony before the committee on August 28, 2023, Bugri also mentioned that he needed help with the recording because he was unable to do it on his own.
Commander Asare, COP Mensah, and Superintendent Gyebi were the three senior police officers who visited him and discussed the aforementioned plot, according to him.

Bugri Naabu claimed he decided to film the conversation in order to convey the message to President Akufo-Addo unchanged when he came before a Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee that has been tasked with investigating the matter.

The former NPP Chairman explained how he captured the talk, claiming to have purchased the recording device at the Accra Mall.
He decided to record their chats because he knew he couldn’t have remembered everything that happened, ensuring that he didn’t forget anything.

Given the nature of the conversation with the senior police officers involved, the information on the leaked recording has sparked a national debate.
After receiving criticism from the public, Parliament established the Committee, which is now being investigated by Samuel Atta-Akyea, a member of parliament for Abuakwa South.
The panel’s mandate is to look into both the veracity of the recording that was released and the complex claims that have drawn the attention of the country.
