GPL: Kotoko win five-goal thriller against Inter Allies in Dawu
Asante Kotoko moved level on points with Ghana Premier League leaders Hearts of Oak after beating Inter Allies 3-2 in a remarkable game at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu, the adopted home of the latter.
Defender Andrew Kwadwo Appau’s goal settled the contest in Kotoko’s favour after they had been pegged back twice by a defiant Inter Allies.
Kotoko led with a goal advantage in the first half cortesy goals from Emmnuel Gyamfi and Evans Adomako, with Alex Aso halving the deficit for Allies.
Nigerian Andy Okpe’s powerful header from a corner beat the goalkeeper to level proceedings in the 64th minute, but Kotoko went ahead again five minutes later.
Appau rose highest to head home a free-kick delivered from the left wing by Brazilian Fabio Gama. It was the winning goal and by virtue of that, Kotoko remain second with the same 53 points as Hearts.
For Inter Allies, the result leaves them at the bottom and six points adrift of safety with five games to go.
