Bawumia will contest for flagbearer when the time comes – Fred Oware
Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Fred Oware has indicated that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will contest the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic (NPP) party when the times.
After serving as a vice to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the economics expert is backed by a large following to lead the party in the 2024 general elections.
Although nothing had been clear despite the rumours of his desire to be Ghana’s next President, his office has now provided some clarity over his presidential ambition.
“When that time comes he won’t shy away. I think that it is public knowledge. When the time comes he will contest.
“If you read the papers it’s in the papers that he is one of the frontrunners in contesting but the time hasn’t come yet so I think it will be premature for us to engage in that conversation. When the time comes he will make public what his intentions are,” Mr. Fred Oware who is the Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President has told Citi FM.
At the NPPs Greater Accra Regional delegates conference on Thursday, October 14, 2021, Mr. Oware on behalf of Dr. Bawumia donated an amount of GHS20,000 to the Regional Secretariat.
He also donated GHS2,000 to each of the 34 constituencies in the region.
According to the Chief of Staff at the office of the Vice President, the donation has nothing to do with Dr. Bawumia’s ambition for any position in the party.
