Verify the facts: Bawumia’s assertion that Ghana has attained “zero hunger” is untrue!
Ghana is on a list of nations with “zero hunger,” according to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
On November 3, 2024, at his youth connect gathering at the Borteyman Sport Complex, he made this claim.
Listen to Dr. Bawumia’s assertion that Ghana has achieved “zero hunger” by pressing play.
But according to the JoyNews Research Desk’s investigation, this assertion is untrue!
According to data from the Sustainable Development Report 2024, no nation has succeeded in achieving SDG Goal 2, which aims to end hunger by 2030.
Ghana is actually listed in the report as one of the many nations that have “major challenges” in reaching this objective, although making modest progress in that direction.
Achieving “Zero Hunger,” a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) established by the UN to end hunger, is still a major problem, according to the 2024 dashboard.
Only a small number of nations worldwide have made significant progress in bringing hunger rates down to low or negligible levels, but because of persistent problems including food insecurity, malnutrition, and economic inequality, no nation has completely met the Zero Hunger target.
According to the research, the frequency of stunting in children under five years old is 17.5%, while undernourishment affects 4.9% of the population in Ghana.
