Pro-Bawumia organizations ‘fight’ over who will cover the GHC50K flagbearership nomination fee.
There is an intense competition among Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s supporters over who will fork over the GHC50,000 required to submit his presidential nomination paperwork.
On Friday, May 26, 2023, the New Patriotic Party formally announced the start of nominations for the next flag-bearer election. Four candidates picked up their nomination forms successfully at the end of the first day of the opening.
The four were Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, an economist and corporate executive; Mr. Boakye Agyarko, a former energy minister; Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former general secretary of the NPP; Mr. Francis Addai-Nimo, a former member of parliament for Mampong.
At the Party’s Headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, the forms were collected.
The Bawumia Fun Club, according to earlier reports on Friday, picked up vice president nomination papers, according to those reports. However, after signing a check for the full amount of GHC50,000.00, the organisation’s founder, Ntim Jakari, stated in an interview with GhanaWeb that the group had not yet picked up the form. He clarified that this was as a result of difficulties the club had at the party’s headquarters.
“We were the first to arrive, and the office opened at precisely 10:00. They had already left to obtain the draft when they informed us that we would need to get a draft in order to pay for the form rather than a check. Our national chairman has returned to collect some.
She told reporters after presenting the money, “That’s why I didn’t hesitate to pay the full amount for his nomination form.”
The Vice President’s friend Mustapha Hameed, who is the CEO of the National Petroleum Commission, and Yaw Preko, the deputy director of communications at the Presidency, reportedly demanded that the National Executives of the NPP wait to distribute nomination forms before they show up to buy them. “Please don’t give nomination forms to someone else on behalf of DMB until you see me and Mustapha Hameed,” he wrote in a Facebook post. He wrote on Friday, May 26, 2023, “We are buying the forms for him.
On the list of candidates, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the front-runner.
