Adam Bonaa: COP Alex Mensah requires a psychological evaluation because of his inconsistency.
Dr. Adam Bonaa, a security expert, has asked that the committee of parliament looking into the plot to remove Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare conduct a psychological assessment of Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah.
“I say this because the majority of what he has said thus far is contradictory, including his stance and demeanour.
“At one point, he even said he does not remember some of the things he said during the previous sitting,” Dr. Bona said during a debate on an Accra-based network.
On July 11, 2023, a leaked audio clip purportedly featuring a politician and a police commissioner discussing a conspiracy to remove the IGP went viral.
Therefore, on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, the Speaker of the House, Mr. Alban Bagbin, established a seven-member bipartisan Committee to investigate the covert recording of an alleged plot to depose the IGP before the general election in 2024.
The Committee is made up of a technical expert, three members from each of the Majority and Minority sides of Parliament, and has until September 10, 2023, to report its findings to the House.
The committee is presided over by Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea, with Builsa North MP James Agalga serving as vice-chairman.
Members of the Committee include Mr. Peter Lanchene Tuobu, NDC MP for Wa West, Mr. Eric Opoku, NDC MP for Asunafo South, Madam Ophelia Mensah, NPP MP for Mfantseman, and Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah, NPP MP for Okaikwei Central.
Lawyer and human rights advocate Dr. Isaac Lartey Annang is the committee’s technical expert.
When he appeared before the Committee as the first witness, Mr. Daniel Bugri Naabu, a former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), named three police officers as the group he spoke with at his office in Osu: COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George L. Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi.
Dr. Bonaa applauded both the committee and the Speaker of Parliament for holding the hearings on television and for calling the committee into existence.
He pleaded with the committee to call the IGP so that he could respond to some of the accusations levelled against him and inform Ghanaians of the successes of his administration.
The security expert praised the IGP for enhancing Ghana’s security and tranquilly.
“I’m going to bed now. Presently, visibility cops are posted at significant intersections throughout the city. There have been significant upgrades to the infrastructure as well as other meritorious changes.
“When you are implementing systemic changes, it is normal for individuals to criticise you. The IGP is among President Nana Addo’s best selections, he continued.
