The Kumasi High Court rejects the NDC’s appeal against three A/R parliamentary seats.

A Kumasi High Court ruled in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after dismissing a case filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) contesting the outcomes of three parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region in the 2024 election.
Notwithstanding official recounts and the swearing-in of the NPP Members of Parliament, the NDC filed petitions challenging the results of the parliamentary elections in the Ahafo Ano South-West, Obuasi East, and Ahafo Ano North constituencies, arguing that the party’s candidates had legitimately won the seats.
Clement Opoku Gyamfi, the NPP MPs’ counsel, contended that the NDC had not applied for the determination of security for costs within the legally mandated 21 days following the gazetting of the election results, among other procedural requirements.

“Two High Court judges, one from High Court 2 and another from High Court 6, have unanimously ruled that the NDC petition is invalid and dismissed it.” The three MPs have been instructed to stay in Parliament in order to represent their constituencies, he stated, and the NDC has no case.
