The Interior Ministry prohibits carrying ammunition and sets a 6 p.m. curfew for Walewale.

In response to the North East Regional Security Council’s recommendation, the Ministry for the Interior has implemented a curfew in Walewale and the adjacent districts of the North East Region.
Starting on Saturday, February 15, 2025, the Executive Instrument-enforced curfew will run from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. every day.

On Saturday, February 15, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, the Interior Minister, signed a statement expressing this.

In the face of persistent difficulties, the administration urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and young people to maintain restraint and look for peaceful, non-violent ways to resolve disputes in the region.

Furthermore, Walewale and the surrounding area have been declared to be completely free of the possession of firearms, ammunition, and offensive weapons.

Any anybody found in possession of such weapons would be arrested and charged, the statement said.

In order to restore calm, the administration urged all citizens to work together and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the area.
