Since December 7, government agencies have been required to disclose worker records that have been added to payroll.

All heads of government institutions have received an order from Chief of worker Julius Debrah asking for comprehensive worker data to be added to their payrolls as of Saturday, December 7, 2024.
This action is in line with the John Mahama administration’s continuous efforts to “ensure the accuracy and integrity of government payroll records.”
Mr. Debrah underlined the significance of this endeavour in the letter dated January 15, saying that “this information is critical to maintaining transparency and accountability in our payroll management processes.”
Institution heads have been requested to provide particular information for every employee added within the allotted time frame, such as:
- Full Name
- Designation/Job Title
- Employee Identification Number (if applicable)
- Date of Appointment
- Date Added to Payroll
The date of the appointment Institutions that have been added to payroll must deliver the needed information to the Chief of Staff’s office by Friday, January 31, 2025, at the latest.

“Your cooperation in this important matter is highly appreciated,” Mr Debrah noted, underscoring the significance of the exercise in curbing payroll-related inefficiencies.
Additionally, the letter encourages institutions to seek further clarification if needed, assuring them that support will be provided throughout the process.
This initiative is part of the broader government strategy to eliminate ghost names from the payroll and optimise public sector financial management.
Stakeholders are urged to comply with the directive promptly to enhance payroll accuracy and prevent any financial leakages.
