OSP says that Ken Ofori-Atta is no longer desired.

After authorities decided to revoke the statement that had classified former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a fugitive from justice, he is no longer wanted by the government.
This comes after Ofori-Atta was first listed as sought by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in relation to an ongoing investigation into suspected financial malfeasance.
Involvement in the Strategic Mobilization-GRA Contract, termination of the ECG-BXC contract, payments pertaining to the National Cathedral, ambulance procurement, and use of the Tax Refund Account were among the charges brought against Ofori-Atta by the Special Prosecutor.
According to a recent announcement, Mr. Ofori-Atta informed the OSP today of the date of his voluntary return.
In light of this, his name has been taken off the OSP’s wanted list.
“Consequently, Mr. Ofori-Atta has been removed from the OSP’s list of wanted persons and the OSP ceases to consider Mr. Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice pending his voluntary return to the jurisdiction circa his stated date,” the statement continued.
The OSP further stated that Mr. Ofori-Atta will be placed back on the OSP’s wanted persons list and will be considered a fugitive from justice. The OSP will then take all necessary legal actions to ensure his return to the jurisdiction and attendance at the OSP at our own discretion if he does not voluntarily return to the jurisdiction by the specified date and does not show up for the OSP on the rescheduled date.”
The former Finance Minister is anticipated to return to Ghana in May 2025 after undergoing a medical evaluation overseas, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin informed Parliament earlier today.
“We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated February 17, 2025, we respectfully indicate that our client who is much due for his return cannot be any time before six to eight weeks of his possible surgical intervention as stated in the hospital’s letter.”
“Our clients hold that taking into account surgical dates from March 20 to 21, and his recuperation period he should be able to be back into the jurisdiction between May 14 and 30, 2025. We hope you take note of this date and same can guide your office in fixing a day for the in-person of our client to your office,” he stated.
