Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has said that he will once again attempt to mediate a settlement between the two sides in the ongoing Bawku dispute.
The statement comes after President John Mahama recently promised that the Asantehene-led peace process will continue as part of the country’s attempts to bring peace back to the tense area.

The Asantehene announced in a statement released on April 15 that the mediation sessions will be held at his palace in Kumasi from April 28 to May 1.

According to parts of the Manhyia statement, “His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will resume mediation of the Bawku crisis as agreed with both parties from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi.”

The Palace also emphasised the objective of establishing enduring peace in Bawku and urged all parties to the conflict to actively engage with the process.
It further stated, “Asantehene asks all parties involved to work together so that we can establish a sustainable peace in Bawku.”

Last year, former President Akufo-Addo designated Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as the mediator in charge of settling the long-standing disputes in the Bawku region.

A recent resurgence of the fighting, which has killed about two police officers and impacted local healthcare delivery, prompted the call to continue the discussions.

Key leaders from the opposing factions as well as other pertinent stakeholders are anticipated to participate in the mediation meetings, which will take place at the King’s palace.
