Mahama’s seven-person National Economic Dialogue team is chaired by Dr. Ishmael Yamson.

As part of his 120-day Social Contract with the Ghanaian people, President John Dramani Mahama established a seven-member National Economic Dialogue (NED) Planning Committee.
The project’s goals are to address the country’s urgent economic issues and pave the way for sustainable growth.

Under the direction of distinguished economist Dr. Ishmael Yamson, the group has been charged with setting up a high-level forum to promote dialogue and establish agreement on policies essential to converting Ghana into a resilient, inclusive, and high-growth economy. Within four weeks, the committee is supposed to deliver its report.

Prominent figures including Dr. K.Y. Amoako, Professor John Gatsi, Mohammed Samara, Nelly Mireku, Anthony Sarpong, and Ernest De-Graft Egyir are among the committee members.

It is expected that their combined experience would steer the discussion and create practical suggestions for economic change.
In a statement released on January 26, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, acting spokesperson to the president, described the NED’s goals.

Among these include giving the public and stakeholders a truthful assessment of Ghana’s economic status and establishing a forum for discussion and consultation on urgent development concerns.

According to the release, “the NED will promote consensus on reforms required for Ghana’s economic transformation, assess policy trade-offs, and facilitate discussions on the nation’s key challenges.”

The committee will also be in charge of identifying structural reforms to restart the economy and creating a domestic fiscal consolidation program to direct the national budget.
