Ghana and the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) have spoken, and the guy who remained loyal to himself, Gregory Bortey Newman, also known as King Promise, is the 5 Star General, the smooth hitmaker with unparalleled consistency.

At the 25th anniversary edition of the TGMAs, King Promise won Artiste of the Year, making it one of the most memorable events in Ghanaian music history.

This significant victory is the pinnacle of the Afrobeats phenomenon’s already incredible year.

The category has been the focus of debates leading up to the most anticipated night, but King Promise has hushed all doubters as he wins among fierce competitors.

The win of King Promise, who defeated a formidable and varied field of contenders that included Stonebwoy, Black Sherif, King Paluta, Joe Mettle, Team Eternity, and Kweku Smoke, lends support to the adage “when the time is right.”
King Promise demonstrated that consistency, adaptability, and fan interaction remain the keys to success by performing on big stages all around the world and delivering the highly regarded “True to Self” album, which also took home Album/EP of the Year.
An emotional King Promise presented him with the highest honour of the evening, dedicating it to all those who have supported and honoured his journey, which started with a dream and smooth vocals and has now resulted in the greatest recognition in Ghanaian music.

This year’s TGMA celebrated 25 years of Ghanaian music, and it seemed appropriate that the winner be a musician that embodies the country’s ten years of development as well as its promising future.

King Promise is now more than just a fan favourite from Accra to the rest of the world; he is the official Artiste of the Year and the public face of Ghanaian music.
