Former President Akufo-Addo’s statue in Sekondi was demolished.

Unknown persons have demolished the statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, which is situated at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi.
According to a person close to the police, they were alerted to the occurrence and hurried to the scene. “The damage was already done when we arrived,” the insider claimed.
The head to knee portion of the statue is crushed, and the entire thing has been overturned and ruined. According to reports, it happened on January 13, 2025, at around 1:30 am.
The statue, which was unveiled on November 6, 2024, in remembrance of the former president, had its leg repaired in December 2024 after sustaining noticeable damage.
There was much conjecture on the cause of the damage due to a large hole at the rear of the left leg; some locals suspected intentional vandalism, while others attributed it to potential structural flaws.
According to witnesses, two men and a woman performed the repairs on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m. By 6:00 p.m., a police officer was also seen securing the area.
The statue has continued to be a source of conflict in the neighbourhood even after it was restored. Its timing and suitability have been questioned, especially in view of other urgent developmental requirements.
