Election in Ablekuma North: EC to meet with NDC and NPP to address concerns

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be consulted by the Electoral Commission (EC) regarding the postponed results of the parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
During an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting last Wednesday at the EC’s corporate office in Accra, Jean Mensa, the EC’s chairperson, announced this.

In order to revive cooperation and collaboration between the European Commission and its stakeholders, representatives of political parties, civil society groups, the media, and state institutions attended the meeting.

According to Mrs. Mensa, the meeting between the two parties was anticipated to offer a chance for a thorough discussion of the issue and provide it a definitive conclusion.

The chairperson of the EC stated, “We will have a thorough meeting to discuss it.”
The meeting has not, however, been scheduled for a precise date.

Context
Due to incomplete results sheets from several polling places, the election results for the Ablekuma North Constituency have been postponed.

Despite this, the commission has been putting forth a lot of effort to finish the results, which have been beset by delays and disputes.

Seven suspensions of the process have occurred, including one on January 8, 2025, when the Returning Officer resigned due to a disagreement concerning pink sheet authentication.
Since then, the constituency has been tense because to disagreements between NDC and NPP supporters over the outcomes.

While the NPP maintains that its candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, won the parliamentary contest, the NDC asserts that their candidate, Ewurabena Aubyn, did.

In the midst of the dispute, both parties have put up billboards in the area to express gratitude to the voters for their support.

Results from 278 of the 281 polling places in the Ablekuma North Constituency have been confirmed.
The NDC and the NPP are now at odds over the three voting places that are still unfinished.
