Eight Chinese and Ghanaians are arrested by National Security for missing ECG containers at the port.

Eight Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian have been arrested as part of a joint National Security operation in relation to the loss of containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at the Tema Port.
Investigators linked cables that were thought to be a component of the missing consignment to a Chinese nationals’ aluminium smelting plant at Shai Hills, which led to the arrest.
As part of continuing efforts to solve the crime, security personnel raided the site in response to intelligence and captured the suspects.
This is the most recent development in the investigation into the ECG container crisis, in which more than 1,300 containers containing vital equipment and electrical wires have vanished.
The government will begin a criminal probe into the incident, according to a previous announcement made by Energy Minister John Jinapor.
He underlined that a forensic investigation was necessary to determine how the containers were taken out of the port and their final destination.
“We will begin a forensic and criminal investigation into this matter. We should find out where the containers were removed from the port, how they got there, and what happened to them. Everyone in the value chain, including clearing businesses, ports, national security, and ECG itself, will be monitored.
He declared, “Once we start that criminal investigation, I’m confident we’ll find the truth and bring the offenders to justice.”
In a Thursday, March 27 interview with TV3, the Minister disclosed that 40 of the missing ECG containers had been found at a Kpone terminal.
He stated that the suspect claims to have lawfully obtained the containers last year and verified that an Indian person has been taken into custody in relation to the matter.
