Barker-Vormawor was given ¢20,000 bail following three failed attempts.

After three failed efforts, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the convenor of the Democracy Hub-organized anti-galamsey protest, was granted ¢20,000 bail on Wednesday, October 16.
Both the Circuit Court and the Accra High Court had rejected his prior bail requests.
Mr Barker-Vormawor was taken into custody while participating in a protest against galamsey, an unlawful mining practice that has seriously harmed Ghana’s ecology.
A number of activists took part in the demonstration, which sought to increase awareness and resistance to the practice, raising worries about the depletion of natural resources.
Police sources state that Mr. Barker-Vormawor was detained for participating in illegal acts during the protest; however, the specifics of his alleged misbehaviour are still being looked into.
His taking the keys out of a police van that was stationed at the protest location was one of the events that resulted in his detention.
Notwithstanding these obstacles, the activist has not wavered in his opposition to galamsey, pushing for increased accountability in the battle against illicit mining as well as environmental changes.
