The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) was fired, a move that the minority in parliament vehemently denounced as a hazardous politicisation of Ghana’s workforce and an insult to professional health personnel.

The Minority voiced serious concerns in a statement released on Friday over the recent incident between the Minister of Health and TTH medical staff, which resulted in the CEO’s dismissal.

They questioned the government’s approach to the issue, saying it shows a wider intent to politicise public sector workers and a lack of respect for hard-working Ghanaians.

“Since the Mahama government was installed in January 2025, there have been significant ramifications for labour relations in the already tense and highly politicised public sector,” the statement added.

The government’s actions, according to the Minority, convey a “chilling message” to vital service workers nationwide, implying that professional dignity and job security might be compromised for political reasons.
The group called the undermining of health professionals’ confidence “reckless” and “dangerous” at a time when the health sector is dealing with a severe lack of experienced personnel and widespread burnout.

“Doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals play a critical role in delivering the trust and promise of health care to all communities in Ghana, and the country’s health care workforce should be strengthened and respected to meet the specific needs of patients,” the statement continued.

The Minority also demanded immediate corrective action after accusing the Health Minister of disrespecting medical experts and exhibiting weak dispute resolution abilities.

The Minority claimed that the doctors’ demand for an apology to the esteemed physician and other impacted medical professionals is within their right to dignity and is not an overreach.
The Minority made a clear plea for President John Dramani Mahama to intervene right away in order to rebuild trust among medical professionals.

“We call on the President to address this issue by reprimanding the minister to show the way in promoting a culture of civility and respect towards the hard-working Ghanaian workforce.”
