Bawumia consoles Bafana Bafana; congratulates Black Stars

Ghana Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has congratulated the Black Stars for qualifying for the final round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

“Congratulations to the Black Stars for topping Group G to qualify for the World Cup play-offs following a hard-fought victory over South Africa,” Bawumia posted on social media.

He added, “Sorry to the Bafana Bafana for missing the play-off by a whisker.”

Ghana won the nerve-wracking match by a lone goal at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday evening.

Captain Andre Ayew, playing his 100th game, kept his composure and scored a penalty awarded in the 33rd minute after Daniel Amartey was impeded in the box.

Although Black Stars didn’t play well, they got the job done.

But South Africa, who needed just a point to qualify, are furious with the penalty decision and are set to petition FIFA and CAF.

Meanwhile, Bawumia wished Hasaacas Ladies good luck ahead of their CAF Women’s Champions League semi-finals encounter against ASFAR club of Morocco on Monday.
