30k rounds of ammo are intercepted by police at the Tadzewu-Metsrikasa Barrier.

A large shipment of munitions aboard a passenger bus from Accra to Benin has been stopped by police officers stationed at the Tadzewu-Metsrikasa Barrier in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region.
The arrest took place during a normal inspection of a Hyundai passenger bus with registration number GR 8246-Q early on Friday, April 18, 2022, at around 0330 hours.
A search of the automobile turned up 72 boxes of BB cartridges, which contained 18,000 pieces of BB cartridge ammunition, and 60 cartons of AAA cartridges, which contained 15,000 pieces of AAA cartridge ammunition. To evade detection, the crates had been wrapped in bags and hidden beneath luggage.
This was said in an official statement dated April 19, 2025, signed by DSP Felix Danku and released by the Volta Regional Police Public Affairs Unit.
The report states that the car’s driver, 45-year-old Abasou Fousseni, and his co-driver, 38-year-old Salisu Jalilu, were taken into custody right away to be questioned.
However, neither man claimed to be aware of the concealed ammo.
According to the statement, “preliminary investigations indicate that the co-driver, Salisu Jalilu, was in charge of loading the illegal items into the vehicle.”
Given this development, the driver was given bail so that he could continue driving and make sure the passengers arrived at their destination safely.
To help with ongoing investigations, the co-driver is still being held.
His arraignment is scheduled on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service’s strong commitment to fighting transnational crimes—particularly those that jeopardise peace and security within the ECOWAS subregion—was reaffirmed in the statement.
The source and intended recipients of the munitions are still being investigated.
