According to President John Mahama’s announcement, government appointees will not be permitted to travel in first class.
“My administration will be characterised by modesty and respect for the Ghanaian people,” he said.
On Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Jubilee House, he said this while ministers were sworn in.
The President disclosed that to cut government spending, he has directed the Chief of Staff to formally inform ministries and government appointees about an immediate restriction on non-essential travel.
“Any travel that is considered necessary and essential must be approved by the Office of the Chief of Staff first, and it must be taken in a modest manner rather than first class,” he stated.
He also emphasised that his administration will not tolerate conceit or pomposity.
He said, “The resources you will be working with belong to the Ghanaian people who put us in office,” but cautioned that they shouldn’t be squandered on luxury or extravagance.
